THE RECENT PAST
"Winter Solstice" is a sacred time of celebration. The night is longest, but it brings the promise of longer days. Raise a glass of cheer with this interpretation of the triple goddess decked out in mistletoe and holly. The eclipsing moon behind the trio reminds us that light and dark overlap.
Triple goddess myths echo across many cultures. They are the Maiden, Mother, and Crone who control our fates. This interpretation is loosely based on the Nornir, but with a twist. The mother holds a bowl representing fate, the maiden is the fawn with the ribbon of life wrapped around her neck, and the raven, representing the crone, prepares to cut the ribbon. If you are familiar with the Norn myth, you know it is Skuld (the maiden "What Shall Be") who cuts the cord. I gave the job to the crone because experience removes our fear of the unknown.
Fill your bowl with joy and meaning this holiday season.
